Ielts writing task 2 – People from rich country volunteering in poor countries.

More and more young people from wealthy countries are spending a short time doing unpaid work such as teaching or building houses for communities in pooer countries. Why do young people choose to do so? Who will benefit more: young people or the communities?

There is an increasing number of young adults in developed countries making their time to do volunteer work in low-income nations. In my opinion, there are some reasons why these people do this, and I believe that both local communities and these youngsters can benefit from this development.

First of all, I personally think that many young people in well-off nations are devoting their time doing unpaid work since they generally have a strong sense of altruism. This is because children in affluent countries are usually encouraged to assist other people from a young age. What is more, these young people are those who are seeking chances to live life to the fullest. They maintain that doing unpaid work in underdeveloped countries would enable them to gain new experiences that they would never have in their home countries.

I am of the opinion that doing unpaid work is beneficial to both these young adults and local communities. To begin with, working voluntary jobs in poorer nations offers these young people many chances to understand different hardships and expand their knowledge about the world outside. As a result, they are likely to learn how to cherish their life later on. For local communities, their own citizens are likely to receive help from these young people, which may allow them to improve their living conditions. For example, many American volunteers carry out projects to construct schools for children in minority groups in Vietnam in the hope of giving them access to better education.

In conclusion, I believe that young people from wealthy nations do volunteer work as they are educated to give others assistance when they are younger, and they want to have new experiences in life. I also think that this trend brings both local communities and these young people lots of advantages.
